Rodent Control Sydney

Rat & Mouse Control Done Right

Rodents are one of Sydney's most destructive and health-threatening pests. Rats and mice contaminate food, spread disease, gnaw through electrical wiring — causing fires — and damage insulation, timber, and plumbing. Once inside a property, they breed rapidly and are extremely difficult to remove without professional intervention.

Our licensed technicians don't just put down baits and leave. We conduct a full inspection to identify entry points, nesting areas, and activity trails. We then deploy a strategic baiting program using tamper-resistant stations, recommend and implement proofing measures to block re-entry, and offer ongoing monitoring for commercial properties that need compliance documentation.

Rodent Species

Rodents Found in Sydney Properties

Sydney has three common rodent species — each with different habits, behaviours, and treatment requirements.

🐀
Norway Rat (Brown Rat) ⚠ Most Common

The Norway rat is Sydney's most prevalent rodent pest. A heavy-bodied, ground-dwelling rat that burrows under concrete slabs, garden edges, and building foundations. They enter homes through gaps around pipes, weep holes, and subfloor vents. Highly destructive gnawers that will chew through timber, plastic pipes, and electrical wiring.

Size200–270mm body
WeightUp to 500g
NestsGround level, burrows
Litters/YearUp to 7 litters
🐀
Roof Rat (Black Rat) ⚠ Roof & Ceiling Invader

The roof rat is an agile, slender climber that nests in roof voids, ceiling cavities, wall spaces, and trees. The most likely cause of scratching noises in ceilings at night in Sydney homes. They access properties via tree branches overhanging roofs, along power lines, and through gaps around roof eaves. Their gnawing of roof insulation and wiring is extremely costly.

Size160–200mm body
NestsRoof voids, trees
ActivityMainly nocturnal
EntryRoof, eaves, power lines
🐭
House Mouse ⚠ Year-Round Pest

The house mouse is small but highly destructive. They enter through gaps as small as 6mm and contaminate food stores, gnaw packaging, and chew through wiring. Mice breed extremely rapidly — a pair can produce over 60 offspring per year. They are curious and less cautious than rats, making them easier to attract to bait stations when correctly placed.

NestsWall cavities, roof voids

Why Baiting Alone Isn't Enough

Baiting kills the rodents currently in your property — but if the entry points remain open, new rodents will simply move in from surrounding areas. This is why our treatment always includes an entry-point assessment and proofing recommendations.

A complete rodent solution = Eliminate + Proof + Monitor

Health & Property Risk

The Real Dangers of a Rodent Infestation

Rodents cause serious damage to both your health and your property. The longer an infestation is left untreated, the worse — and more costly — the damage becomes.

🔥

Electrical Fire Risk

Rodents gnaw constantly to wear down their ever-growing teeth. Chewed electrical wiring is a leading cause of unexplained house fires in Australia — a risk that is completely preventable.

🦠

Disease Transmission

Rats and mice carry Leptospirosis, Salmonella, Hantavirus, and other diseases. Contamination occurs through droppings, urine, and contact with surfaces they travel across.

🍽️

Food Contamination

Rodents contaminate far more food than they consume. A single mouse can contaminate 10 times its body weight in food with droppings and urine before being detected.

🏚️

Structural Damage

Rats gnaw through timber joists, plasterboard, plastic pipes, and roof insulation — causing thousands of dollars in structural and plumbing damage when left untreated.

📈

Rapid Breeding

A pair of rats can produce up to 84 offspring per year. Delaying treatment by just a few weeks can turn a manageable problem into a severe infestation requiring multiple treatments.

🏢

Business Shutdown Risk

Rodent evidence found during a council inspection can result in immediate closure for food businesses, significant fines, and lasting reputational damage that is very difficult to recover from.

Our Method

How We Eliminate & Prevent Rodents

A three-part strategy: eliminate the current population, block re-entry, and monitor for ongoing activity.

Treatment Methods

🎯

Tamper-Resistant Bait Stations

Professional-grade locked bait stations placed along rodent activity trails. Tamper-resistant design makes them safe around children and non-target animals while being highly effective.

🔒

Entry-Point Proofing

Identification and sealing of all gaps, weep holes, pipe penetrations, and entry points rodents use to access the property. Proofing prevents re-infestation after treatment.

📊

Activity Monitoring

Tracking dust, bait consumption, and activity indicators at each station. Regular monitoring visits for commercial properties — with written service reports for compliance.

Our Treatment Process

1

Full Property Inspection

We inspect inside and outside the property — identifying species, locating nesting areas, mapping activity trails, and finding all potential entry points.

2

Strategic Bait Placement

Tamper-resistant bait stations positioned along confirmed activity trails — inside and outside the property. Placement is critical; poor positioning leads to poor results.

3

Proofing Assessment & Works

All identified entry points are sealed using appropriate materials — stainless steel mesh, expanding foam, or door sweeps as required. This step prevents re-infestation.

4

Follow-Up & Report

We return to check bait stations, remove any deceased rodents, replenish bait, and confirm the infestation has been resolved. Written service report provided.

Rodent Proofing

Proofing Your Property Against Rodents

Killing rodents is only half the job. Proofing your property stops new ones from moving in — giving you a permanent, long-term solution.

🔩

Stainless Steel Mesh

Installed over weep holes, vents, and gaps in brickwork. Rodent-proof and rust-resistant — the most durable long-term proofing solution for brick and masonry properties.

🚪

Door Sweeps & Seals

Brush strips and rubber seals fitted to the base of external doors — closing the common gap that allows both rats and mice to enter at ground level, especially at the rear of properties.

🔧

Pipe Penetration Sealing

Gaps around water, gas, and electrical pipe penetrations through walls and floors are sealed with expanding foam or rodent-proof collars — a commonly overlooked entry point.

🏠

Roof & Eave Proofing

Gaps at roof eaves, broken tiles, and openings where roof meets wall are sealed to prevent roof rat entry. Often requires a roof inspection to identify all access points.

🌿

Tree & Garden Advice

Recommendations on trimming overhanging branches, removing ground cover, and relocating compost bins and garden features that attract and harbour rodents near the property.

📋

Written Proofing Report

All identified entry points are documented with photos and recommendations in a written report — particularly useful for body corporates, strata managers, and commercial operators.

Warning Signs

Signs You Have a Rodent Problem

Rodents are nocturnal and secretive. These are the most common signs of an active infestation.

01

Scratching Noises in the Ceiling

Hearing scratching, scurrying, or gnawing sounds in the ceiling or walls at night is the most common indicator of an active roof rat or mouse infestation.

02

Rodent Droppings

Dark, pellet-shaped droppings found in cupboards, behind appliances, in the pantry, or along wall edges. Rat droppings are 10–20mm; mouse droppings are smaller at 3–7mm.

03

Gnaw Marks

Fresh gnaw marks on timber, food packaging, plastic pipes, or electrical cables. Rat gnaw marks are rougher and larger than mouse marks — both are serious warning signs.

04

Greasy Smear Marks

Dark, greasy marks along skirting boards, walls, and pipes where rodents repeatedly travel. Their oily fur leaves marks along their regular runways — a sure sign of an established infestation.

05

Nesting Material

Shredded paper, insulation, fabric, or plant material gathered in hidden corners, under appliances, or inside roof voids — used to construct nests for breeding.

FAQs

Rodent Control FAQs

How long does rodent treatment take to work?

Rodents typically begin taking bait within 3–5 days of placement. Most infestations show a significant reduction within 1–2 weeks. A follow-up visit is included to check station activity, remove deceased rodents, and replenish bait as required. Complete resolution typically occurs within 2–4 weeks depending on infestation severity.

Are bait stations safe around children and pets?

Yes. We use tamper-resistant, lockable bait stations that prevent access by children and non-target animals. Stations are positioned in concealed locations along rodent activity trails — typically behind appliances, in roof voids, or along external walls — away from areas accessible to children and pets.

Why do I keep getting rats even after treatment?

Recurring infestations almost always mean entry points have not been sealed. Rats from neighbouring properties, gardens, or the sewer system will continuously re-enter if access points remain open. This is why proofing is a critical part of our treatment — baiting alone is never a permanent solution without closing the entry points.

Can you treat rodents in a roof void?

Yes. Roof void baiting is one of our most common treatments in Sydney — particularly for roof rats that nest in ceiling cavities. We place bait stations directly in the roof void along activity trails and return to check and replenish. We also assess and seal roof-level entry points where possible.

How much does rodent control cost in Sydney?

Pricing depends on property size, the severity of the infestation, and whether proofing works are required. We provide an upfront quote before starting — no hidden fees. Call 0415 655 783 for a free phone quote specific to your property and situation.
